Does Company Culture Drive Success?
Last week I had the opportunity to attend a talk by Howard Stoeckel Chairman and CEO of Wawa. Now unless you are from PA, NJ, DE, MD, or FL. You might not have heard of WaWa. Moving from New York to Philadelphia was tough but I have adjusted, but it will never be the same as my New York. However one of the best parts of living in this area is WAWA!. Believe it or not, this convenience store slash fast food restaurant has grown on me. It is a cultural icon for people in the Delaware Valley, but greater than that the company has a great corporate culture.
It is a privately owned 10 Billion dollar company with a culture that has lead to financial success. Mr Stocekl spoke about servant leadership and his book "The WaWa Way" how serving your employees leads to the employees serving your customers better. This is the model many of the most successful companies and when they do the company reaps the benefits financially.
So what is your company culture and how is what you are doing everyday benefitting you or the customer? Do your actions help your team succeed and grow? Have you worked in the field and or done your reports jobs? These small actions can lead to greater buy-in from your team and equal greater financial results to your company.
